Official first

Life-safety and operational claims link to the responsible authority. Derived recommendations never replace official instructions.

Stale is not clear

An expired or failed feed is labeled unavailable or stale. It is never converted into “no alerts” or normal operations.

Cache before serving

A worker polls upstream sources. User requests read PostgreSQL or a safe fallback and do not inherit third-party latency.

Corrections and commercial data

Directory facts need a source URL and verification date. Sponsored placement, affiliate links, or paid inclusion must be disclosed and must not change safety or editorial rankings. Corrections should preserve the previous record in an audit trail when the directory workflow is added.

Time and units

Local times use Atlantic Standard Time (America/Puerto_Rico, UTC−4) year-round. Visitor-facing temperatures use Fahrenheit, distances use miles, wind uses mph, rain uses inches, and tides use feet.
